Underwriters Laboratory (UL) offers testing and certification services aimed at measuring specific properties of silicone elastomer materials. Listed below are the basic test standards utilized by UL in the testing of silicone compounds. It refers to the vertical burning speed, measured in millimeters per minute, of a material with a given thickness. Upon removal of the ignition source, the silicone compound ceases combustion. It neither glows under UL testing conditions nor releases flaming particles or molten drops. UL's V-0 standard represents the strictest flammability classification available for elastomer products.

UL94 HB

Calculating the linear burning rate in millimeters per minute.For a material of a specified thickness, the silicone compound’s burn rate does not go beyond the designated speed. The listed silicone compounds satisfy UL's requirements for tensile properties, durometer, and elongation—both in terms of their original physical characteristics and after undergoing heat aging. Furthermore, materials listed by UL are required to pass tests for low-temperature brittleness, compression set, and ozone exposure.
